Penrith Blue Mountains Sub Branch meetings offer a chance to workshop issues and challenges

The sub branch has met twice so far this year. Sub branch meetings of workplace chapter representatives and IEUA NSW/ACT Council members enable chapter reps to network and discuss a range of issues they may be grappling with, with other chapter representatives and IEU officials. IEU officers present can update reps on Union business at the meeings.

The first meeting in February was the AGM. The following office holders were elected:

President Michael Loudoun St Mary’s Flexible Learning Centre, St Mary’s

Vice President Regina Bryan St Monica’s, Richmond

Secretary Margaret O’Donnell Xavier College, Llandilo ( Kirinari)

Committee Member Geoff Anderson St Paul’s Grammar, Cranebrook.

Dates were set for the 2018-2019 meetings. Upcoming meeting dates are as follows, with all meetings at 4.30pm at the Nepean Rowing Club, Penrith:

1 August

21 November

13 February 2019 (AGM).

The IEUA NSW/ACT Branch thanks the elected office holders for being so actively involved in their Union and generously giving of their time.

The Term 2 meeting was held on 16 May. Accompanied by delicious food provided by the staff at the Nepean Rowing Club, IEU officers updated chapter representatives present on the state of play for enterprise agreements in Catholic and Christian sectors; ways that chapter representatives can recruit new members; the Union’s professional development opportunities for members and a NESA accreditation update including how schools must assist casual teachers with accreditation.

During the agenda item, Issues from Schools, every chapter rep present had the opportunity to share recent issues at their school and to workshop suggested strategies to approach issues as well as how the Union can assist.

Thank you to all who travelled to attend the meeting. The Union appreciates your active involvement. We also thank the Nepean Rowing Club staff for their hospitality.

As convenor of the sub branch, I hope to meet all Penrith Blue Mountains chapter reps at the next meeting in a few weeks on 1 August. If you can’t attend it is fine to send an alternative member from your chapter.
