A NSW Working With Children Check clearance is valid for five years. The NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) report that there are more than 40,000 clearances in NSW that are due to expire in the next two months.
This includes teachers (and medical staff) who require a clearance and may be restricted in their capacity to go to a Service NSW centre to finalise their renewal application.
As a result the (OCG) have advised that Working With Children Checks due to expire between 19 July 2021 and 26 September 2021 have been extended for three months. The three-month period applies from the date of the person’s current expiry date.
People who are granted an extension will be advised by email and the system will be automatically updated.
Union members holding a NSW Working With Children Check clearance are reminded to ensure that all contact details are up to date with the OCG. This includes email contact details, which the OCG frequently uses as its method of communication.
