Helping children with disabilities transition to school

Starting school is a major milestone for all children and families. When a child has a disability there can be additional stress for families and a need for extra planning and preparation for everyone involved in the transition.

A new web-based resource has been developed by Early Childhood Intervention Australia and funded by the Department of Family and Community Services.

The new website contains practical information for teachers, families, early childhood intervention professionals, early childhood education and care professionals, and the wider community.

A key focus of this resource is on developing positive collaborative relationships between families, schools and support professionals.

The website has been developed with reference to the latest research literature and in consultation with stakeholders around NSW.
