Our first meeting for 2016 was held on Monday 29 February at the Wattle Street office, with several IEU members and organisers in attendance.
A range of items were presented for discussion including: raising awareness of IEU support for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers and support staff; the importance of providing cultural awareness training for IEU and school staff; Closing the Gap issues; industrial matters that explicitly affect our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members and quite a bit more.
A report from the meeting will be tabled at the next Council meeting (Saturday 19 March) to ensure information is communicated across all levels of the IEU, as well as regular updates in each Newsmonth. Keep an eye on our website and social media sites as well, as we will try to make regular posts about matters relating directly with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members. We would welcome other members who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to have their say too, either by joining our working party or emailing ideas/issues/matters to karen@ieu.asn.au. Our next meeting will be held in mid Term 2, exact date, time and venue to be arranged.
