Member survey:

HSC Notes from the Marking Centre

Teachers are extremely reliant on the HSC Notes giving insight into the expectations of students as well as transparency of the marking process.

The Union is asking HSC teachers to complete a short online survey regarding BOSTES’ HSC Notes from the Marking Centre. A link to the survey is on the IEU website: www.ieu.asn.au.

Some members have indicated to the Union that there is a diminution of the quality of feedback found in the HSC Notes documents.

The purpose of the survey is to gain a preliminary indication as to whether the quality of the feedback provided in the BOSTES HSC Notes allows teacher members to make sound professional judgements relating to HSC students’ progress.

It’s important that the HSC Notes provide clear guidelines to all teachers of HSC subjects as to which types and what quality of responses are graded in particular ways.

Many teachers do not have the ability to participate in HSC marking, and certainly can only mark one section a year, so teachers are extremely reliant on the HSC Notes giving insight into the expectations of students as well as transparency of the marking process.

This survey’s results will indicate to the Union as to whether there is widespread concern amongst HSC teachers, and whether further action is required.
